Gary Webb

Editor

Gary D. Webb, M.D. is an Emeritus Professor of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and, from 2009-2016, the Director of the Adult Congenital Heart Program at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Heart Institute. A graduate of McGill University in Montréal, he interned at the Royal Victoria Hospital, and then trained in internal medicine and cardiology at the University of Toronto. From 1980-2004, he was codirector and then director of the Toronto Congenital Cardiac Center for Adults at Toronto General Hospital. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in both internal medicine and cardiology. From 2004-2009, he was director of the Philadelphia Adult Congenital Heart Center at the University of Pennsylvania. Since 2016, he has been a consultant to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and has been responsible for the ACHD Learning Center, the Cardiology Fellow Testing Center, and the Congenital Heart Professionals International (CHIP) Network. Since 2017, he has resumed seeing patients on a part-time basis at the Toronto Congenital Cardiac Centre for Adults.

Theresa Faulkner

Terry Faulkner is a registered nurse with a doctorate degree in nursing practice from the University of Cincinnati. She has 38 years of cardiac experience and is the technical editor / program manager, overseeing the development of the global adult congenital heart disease and a pediatric cardiac learning center. Under her leadership as the ACHD program manager at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, Terry's program was awarded the ACHD comprehensive center accreditation in 2016. Terry's fellowship program also received the ACGME ACHD fellowship accreditation in April 2017. She is actively a mentor for ACHD programs seeking to start a formal program or seeking site accreditation. Terry is the leader and organizer of the ACHD nursing orientation educational steering committee and is actively working to create an ACHD nursing/ physician assistant global organization where nurses and PA's from all over the world can develop and share nursing/PA expertise related to care of the patients with CHD.

Berto Bouma

Berto Bouma, MD, PhD, is senior cardiologist specialized in Congenital Cardiology in adult patients and valvular heart disease in the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. His thesis was on clinical decision making in aortic stenosis. He is the current chairmen of the Dutch Working group on Echocardiography and active member of the national working group on Congenital Heart Disease in Adults. He participates in several research projects.

Matthew Carazo

Dr. Matthew Carazo is a current senior fellow in adult congenital heart disease at Boston Adult Congenital Heart (BACH) Service, a joint collaboration between Boston Children’s Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston, MA). A native Kansan, Dr. Carazo received his medical degree from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. He then completed internal medicine residency and a clinical fellowship in advanced heart failure at New York University (New York, NY). He then went on to train in cardiovascular disease at Drexel University/Hahnemann University Hospital (Philadelphia, PA) before joining the BACH program.

Seiji Ito

Seiji Ito is a staff ACHD cardiologist and pediatric cardiologist at Children’s National Health System in Washington, DC. He received medical degree from Ehime University, Ehime Japan, in 2004. He worked in Okinawa Chubu Hospital and US Naval Hospital Yokosuka in Japan, then he completed further training in combined Internal Medicine and Pediatrics Residency at University of Missouri Kansas City, Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship at New York University in New York City, and Adult Congenital Heart Disease Fellowship at University of Washington in Seattle. He joined Washington Adult Congenital Heart program at Children’s National Health System in Washington, DC in 2015. His primary interest includes care of pediatric and adult congenital heart disease, care of patients with congenital heart disease and pregnancy, and cardiac MRI in adult congenital heart disease.

Philip Moons

Dr. Philip Moons is professor in nursing science at the Center for Health Services and Nursing Research of the KU Leuven – University of Leuven, Belgium. He is mainly involved in outcome research in congenital heart disease, and developed and implemented the role of advanced practice nurse in the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program of the University Hospitals of Leuven. His research spearhead is ‘Transition and care’. For his work, Philip Moons received Martha N. Hill New Investigators Award 2004 from the American Heart Association and the Atie Immink New Investigators Award 2008 from the European Society of Cardiology. Erwin Oechslin

"Dr. Erwin Oechslin is Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto and Director of the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program, located at the Peter Munk Cardiac Center, University Health Network, Toronto, Canada. Dr. Erwin Oechslin was born in Einsiedeln (Switzerland) and graduated from the University of Zurich. After completion of his training in internal medicine and adult cardiology, he dedicated his education to congenital heart disease, which included one year training in pediatric cardiology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Zurich (Switzerland) and a two-year fellowship in Adult Congenital Heart Disease under the supervision of Dr. Gary Webb, Toronto. He returned to the University of Hospital of Zurich in 1998 and restructured the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program. He moved to Toronto, Canada, in 2006 and succeeded Dr. Gary Webb as Director of the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program. He holds the Bitove Family Professorship of Adult Congenital Heart Disease and serves as staff physician in the echo laboratory. He is married to Doris and has three daughters."

James Oliver

James is a Consultant in Adult Congenital Heart Disease at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, Leeds, UK. He qualified from Birmingham, UK, in 1996 and trained in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics in Edinburgh from 2001 to 2006. He was awarded a PhD in 2007 from the University of Edinburgh. He trained in ACHD in Leeds and took up a substantive consultant post there in July 2013. He runs the pulmonary hypertension service for adults with congenital heart disease in Leeds and also contributes to the cardiac obstetric service. He is the Clinical Governance lead for the Congenital Cardiac service. He coordinates the delivery of the UK core curriculum in ACHD for Cardiology trainees in the region.

Els PG Pieper

Dr Els PG Pieper is since 20 years director of the adult congenital heart disease program in the University Medical Center, Groningen, the Netherlands. She was also untill 2013 medical director of the echocardiography department. Her main research interest is in pregnancy and heart disease. She is member of the task forces of the ESC that constructed guidelines for the management of pregnant women with heart disease and for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. She is president of the Working Group on Adult Congenital Heart Disease of the Netherlands Society of Cardiology and has a leading role in the organization of care for adults with congenital heart disease in the Netherlands. She has organized many courses and symposia in the Netherlands, both on echocardiography and on adult congenital heart disease, and has edited several books on these subjects. Harsimran Singh

Dr. Harsimran Singh is an adult congenital heart disease specialist and interventional cardiologist at Weill Cornell Medical College, New York Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, USA. Dr. Singh grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, earning his undergraduate education in Molecular Biology from Princeton University and his medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine. He completed his post-graduate training in medicine and cardiology at University of California, San Francisco and Columbia University – New York Presbyterian Hospital. He trained in adult congenital heart disease and structural interventional cardiology in Canada at Toronto Congenital Cardiac Centre for Adults at Toronto General Hospital. He now heads the Adult Congenital Heart Disease program at Weill Cornell Medical College – New York Presbyterian Hospital as a clinical and interventional specialist. Jonathan Windram

Dr Jonathan Windram is a staff Cardiologist at the Mazankowski Heart Institute in Alberta Canada. He specializes in Adult Congenital Cardiology and Obstetric Cardiology. He has a special interest in Cardiac Imaging having trained in both Echocardiography and Cardiac MRI. Originally from the United Kingdom, he trained in Adult Congenital Cardiology at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Birmingham, UK), Toronto General Hospital and the Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto, Canada).

Craig Alexander

Craig Alexander focuses his practice on the care of adults with congenital heart disease or pediatric cardiology patients who have reached adulthood. He thoroughly enjoys this patient population and has been honored to care for these patients for many years. He also enjoys education of other healthcare team members and seeks ways to educate others on his passion of the care of patients with congenital heart disease.
